_____________________________________________________________________________
Effective October 1, 2009 the Appeals Commission began
publishing
its decisions on the CanLII website located at :
http://www.canlii.ca/en/index.php
CanLII is a non-profit organization managed by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada. CanLII makes Canadian law accessible for free on the Internet through the provision of a web based database. The database allows for fast, effective searching of all decisions published by Courts, Boards, Tribunals, Commissions and Agencies. CanLII also provides links to some Federal and Provincial Legislation.
The move to CanLII provides benefits to both stakeholders and the Appeals Commission, some of which are:
Increased access to our decisions, alongside decisions of other workers' compensation appeals tribunals in Canada (Ontario , Nova Scotia , British Columbia).
Powerful full text search & keyword searching of the entire decision which allows for easier access and retrieval by stakeholders.
Linking capabilities for related decisions, and cited decisions.
Adoption of Industry Standards for the publication of decisions.
CanLII's use of the latest technology, processes, and experienced staff.
Streamlined internal processes at the Commission which results in reduced server and resource requirements.
While CanLII will initially include our decisions from October 1, 2009 onwards, we will begin immediately to move our previously published decisions from our website to CanLII. We will maintain our Appeals Commission decisions website until all decisions from January 1, 2003 are on the CanLII website. The following notice will be provided on our website regarding the cutoff date for identifying which website to access to find a published decision:
All decisions after May 31, 2008 are on the CanLII website
All decisions prior to June 1, 2008 are on the Appeals Commission website
Navigating on CanLII is simple. From the home page, begin by choosing the federal, provincial or territorial jurisdiction from which you want to consult documents. Next, choose legislation databases or one of the court or tribunal databases. Alphabetical or chronological lists then guide you to the document you are seeking. Thanks for your cooperation as we make this transition.
