What Happens After the Hearing

Requesting Further Information

If the hearing panel requires further information after a hearing, the new information will be obtained and shared with all parties by regular mail. Each party is given an opportunity to respond to the new information before a decision is made. In these circumstances, the time for issuing the decision will be extended.

Costs (Reimbursement of Expenses)

Normally, certain costs you incur in order to attend an in-person hearing, such as wage loss, travel and subsistence expenses, are paid by the WCB. After the hearing, if the hearing panel determines that a medical report or other documentation is required, that cost is also charged to the WCB.

Issuing a Decision

As soon as possible after a hearing, a written decision is prepared and sent to all parties and to the WCB office with instructions for implementation. The panel outlines the reasons for its decision. The average time it takes to issue a decision is 4 - 6 weeks following a hearing (providing there is no additional information required to make a decision).
